Hi.

Welcome to The New Hostess! My name is Lucy.

I love to document my adventures in food, entertaining, home design, and travel.

I created this site with the hopes of inspiring everyday tastemakers by posting easy recipes and entertaining ideas. I hope you enjoy!

Valentines Making Party!

This annual tradition has become one of my favorite afternoons of the winter. There's nothing like a little champagne, creativity, and Marvin Gaye on a cold Saturday afternoon to get you into the Valentine's Day spirit. A big fan of cards, hearts, and the holiday in general, I am so happy my friends get just as into it as I do. It was the perfect addition to a weekend of football, beer, and chicken wings! I hope you enjoy a few of my ideas below. :)

So my biggest issue was putting together a large enough valentine work space for 10 people. My breakfast table from West Elm can only fit three, but luckily when I moved to the city I decided to take a decent sized (albeit ancient) card table from my house with me. However, it's ugly. But Home Goods, my little slice of heaven, didn't disappoint with providing me a beautiful woven tablecloth.

Since I don't have that much space in my apartment, I kept it very simple with the drinks! Either rosé or water. And only one candy bowl filled with chocolate hearts... aside from Halloween, there is such a thing as too much of a sweet selection.

For the supplies I ravaged the heart-ed out $1 bins at Target, Michael's, and A.C. Moore. Also, anything pink is severely discounted on February 15th, so it's never too early to start planning ahead. And when bought in bulk on Amazon, glue sticks and mini scissors are really cheap!

Any excuse to eat crustaceans... lobsters are red so naturally they were the perfect fit for a Valentine's Day party. And since my guests were so busy getting creative, I wanted to keep the food selection simple and delicious. You can't go wrong with Luke's!

Pretty valentines! (Enjoying rosé in plastic champagne glasses because they do the trick and WHO has the space to store real ones).

For some reason, I despise pink and red roses but I love white! I also included tulips and white hydrangeas- I thought we had plenty of hot pinks and reds in the supplies so neutral flowers were a sophisticated and understated addition.
