How To: Stretching a Basic Pizza Dough

On Saturday, Betsy, Peyton and I took a pizza making class at AOA in Tribeca. It was SO much fun! We learned the basics of how to make and stretch your own dough. Below is a step-by-step guide so you, too, can make your own personal pizza right in your oven! Maybe this will help with my late night Seamless antics?

Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You will need: 3 cups all purpose flour split into a large mixing bowl and a smaller container plus more for dusting, 1 teaspoon active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon olive, and an 11 oz glass of room temperature water.

Step 4: Vigorously stir yeast and salt until completely dissolved. Pour water mixture onto the 1 1/2 cup flour.

Step 5: Once water and flour are fully mixed, add olive oil. Stir to combine.

Step 8: After all ingredients are rolled up into a ball, take the dough out of the bowl and onto a flat workspace.

Step 10: Break the dough into three equal pieces. Then fold each ball over itself  one last time so it resemble a mushroom top shape.

Step 14: Once the dough has set in the fridge, it will be much flatter! Begin to shape your pie by using your fingertips to indent a crust. Then use your palms to flatten out the middle.

Step 7: Using your hands, work the flour into the wet mixture. It will become increasingly more dry!

Step 9: Dust your surface with flour and begin kneading the dough with your knuckles. Then fold dough over itself. Repeat this a few times until the dough becomes smoother.

Step 11: Close the bottom of each mushroom to the ball is closed.

Step 13: Put the dough on a slightly oiled baking pan and stick in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Step 15: Continue the knead and stretch your dough. As it becomes thinner, begin to place it on a on your 14 inch pizza stone to that it eventually covers it entirely.

Step 16: Begin adding your toppings! We put cheese, spinach, mushrooms, and pepperoni.

Step 18: After garnishing with the toppings of your choice and top with pizza sauce (this is a good basic recipe). Place in the oven 450 degrees for 10-15 minutes. ENJOY!
